Global freelancing outsourcing platform Upwork has started a new bidding policy called Upwork New Connects Policy in June 2019 that impacts hundreds of thousands of freelancers, particularly new users. Connects, the virtual tokens freelancers generally use to submit proposals for any job, is no longer FREE. But now Connects cost $0.15 each submission, learn more.
Freelancers need between one and six tokens depending on the jobs they are applying. For the most in-demand jobs, they need $0.9 per submission.
Why does Upwork impose New Connects Policy?
As a professional Top-Rated freelancer, Upwork sent me an email regarding the Upwork New Connects Policy. They wrote to me that they want to help professional freelancers like me win more jobs. The also wrote that with paid Connects, they expect freelancers will submit fewer proposals, increasing my likelihood of winning projects and making it easier for clients to identify high-quality talent.
We all know that a large number of freelancers apply for one single job. In Upwork community forums, a lot of clients expressed their overwhelmed feeling about the number of job applications they received in response to a posted project. Many projects receive between 50 and 100 proposals, usually. So most of the time, it is hard to narrow down the right candidates in a short time and find out the perfect freelancer. Sometimes it is annoying for the potential clients too. Now Upwork New Connects Policy will be useful for all of us.
From the viewpoint of new freelancers, it is a little harsh to pay for job submissions. They know that they have fewer chances of winning a job, though. But we all should know that talented freelancers always get the job, no matter he/she is a newbie.
The bidding process is always like a war everywhere in the world. So the fittest candidate must win the bid that a valued client can find it costworthy. Otherwise, the potential clients might leave the Upwork platform that is not good for anybody. So the client’s satisfaction should be the utmost priority.
Online earning is not a side business for amateurs anymore. It is a respectable profession, and it needs quality and talent. So now freelancers must apply to the correct Upwork job postings according to their skillset only not like the free submission. I think Upwork New Connects Policy will keep the bidding process clean and easy for both clients and freelancers.
